Questions people ask

What do CQC ratings mean?

The Care Quality Commission inspects every care home in England and rates it Outstanding, Good, Requires improvement or Inadequate. It asks five questions: is the home safe, effective, caring, responsive to people’s needs, and well led? Each gets its own rating as well as the overall one.

What is the difference between a care home and a nursing home?

Both give people a room, meals and help with washing, dressing and medicines. A nursing home also has registered nurses on duty day and night, for people whose health needs a nurse. The CQC records which is which, and we show it beside each home.

How many care homes are there in Oadby and Wigston?

The CQC lists 18 registered care homes across Oadby and Wigston: 3 with nursing and 15 without. Of the 17 with a rating, 14 are rated Good or Outstanding.

How do I check a care home’s latest inspection?

Every home’s reports are on the CQC website, and homes have to show their latest rating at the home and on their own website. Look at the date as well as the rating: some homes were last rated years ago, and the CQC goes back sooner where it has concerns.
