Questions people ask

What does a food hygiene rating of 3 mean?

A 3 means hygiene standards were found to be generally satisfactory. The scale runs from 5 (very good) down to 0 (urgent improvement necessary). The inspector looks at how food is handled and stored, the state of the kitchen and building, and how the business keeps food safe. It says nothing about how the food tastes.

Which takeaways in Wixams have a 5 hygiene rating?

36 of the 56 rated takeaways within 3 miles of the middle of Wixams scored 5 at their last inspection, including McDonald's, Burger King and KFC.

How often are takeaways inspected?

The council decides from how much risk a business poses: the highest-risk places can be inspected every six months, lower-risk ones every year or two, sometimes longer. A business that has put things right can ask to be re-inspected. Each rating here shows when it was given.

Do takeaways have to display their hygiene rating?

Not in England: showing the sticker is up to the business, though most with a good score do. In Wales and Northern Ireland it’s the law. You can look any rating up on the Food Standards Agency’s website, or on each business’s page here.
